The CANSEARCH Foundation

Cancer is the 1st cause of death through illness in children.

  • Every year in Switzerland about 250 children are diagnosed with cancer.
  • Almost half of them are less than 4 years of age.
  • Less than 2 % of the funds dedicated to cancer research are allocated to pediatric cancers.

Cancer affects children and often certain types of cancer are specific to them. Furthermore, children are still in full phase of growth and development and are particularly sensitive to aggressive treatments.

Curing a child with cancer was unimaginable 50 years ago. Today, 80% of affected children and more than 90% of children with leukemia can be cured.

However, cancer is heterogeneous, the overall cure rate is very different in different types of cancer and for some, even today, no therapy exists. Research on childhood cancers should help to identify new treatment avenues for difficult to cure diseases. It should also reduce the side effects of current treatments, thus reducing the long-term side effects in these children who will soon be adults.

The CANSEARCH Foundation was created because it considers that medical research is an integral part of the care of patients and is the cornerstone of future progress.

By supporting the CANSEARCH Foundation you are directly supporting the child.
